Eugene Sunshine

Gene Sunshine's distinguished career includes having held high-level posts in both state government and at Northwestern University and The Johns Hopkins University – 2 of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the United States.

​

From 1997 to 2014, Gene served as Senior Vice President for Business and Finance at Northwestern University, the university’s chief financial and administrative officer. In that role, he supervised the offices of central budgeting, comptroller, and auditing; directed all real estate activities; and oversaw investment management, risk management, and other key university services. He was also a key advisor to Northwestern’s president and Board of Trustees.

Prior to Northwestern, Gene spent a decade as Senior Vice President for Administration at The Johns Hopkins University. Before that, he held senior positions in New York State government, including New York State Treasurer, Deputy Commissioner for Tax Policy, and Director of Energy Conservation at the New York State Energy Office.

Gene currently serves as a director at Arch Capital Group (ACGL).  Previously, Gene was a board member at Cboe Global Markets (CBOE), where he was Lead Director; Bloomberg L.P.; and Nuveen Investments.

In addition to his corporate leadership, Gene is active in numerous non-profit organizations. He is also a lecturer in leadership and management at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, School of Education and Social Policy, and School of Continuing Studies.
